As part of our college program KAGC U, Korean American Grassroots Conference (KAGC) co-hosted a screening and discussion of the film “Vincent Who?” with NYU Asian Pacific American Coalition on March 21.

Given the recent rise of racially biased violence, it was only appropriate to examine the death of Vincent Chin in 1982 and subsequent importance of our community’s civic engagement and coalition building. For the 30+ students in the audience, it was an opportunity to discuss the longstanding perpetual foreigner syndrome and for many, the first time to discover the death of Vincent Chin.

We appreciate Corky Lee for sharing his first-hand experience on the incident, Professor Elizabeth OuYang for the historical context from 1982 to present, and most importantly NYU APAC for taking an important step to learn our history more deeply and build a much-needed visibility for AAPI students.
