In commemoration of the anniversary of the L.A. Riots, KAGC hosted a discussion to reflect on the history of the Korean American community with students at Princeton University on April 29, 2018.

With Korean Students Association of Princeton University, Asian American Students Association, and Black Students Union, we examined the history of Korean migration to the United States, incidents that led to the 1992 L.A. Riots, and the call for civic engagement that followed.

“I had a vague idea about the L.A. Riots, but I didn’t know exactly what happened or why it’s so important,” one student said during the discussion. “I appreciate this opportunity to learn something so important yet no one teaches you.”

We encourage all students in our college program KAGC U to build on the legacy to rise above the insularity of our community and actively participate in public affairs, both civic and political.
