Korean American Grassroots Conference supports the Resolution (H.Res.908) introduced by Rep. Grace Meng in the U.S. House of Representatives to condemn and denounce the anti-Asian sentiment caused by the outbreak of the coronavirus. While the threat of the public health crisis and the anxiety rooted in its uncertainty affect all Americans, those of us with Asian ancestry have particularly suffered both physically and financially due to false vilification and bigotry.

The Resolution condemning anti-Asian sentiment related to COVID-19:

  • calls on all public officials to condemn and denounce any and all anti-Asian sentiment in any form and condemns all manifestations of expressions of racism, xenophobia, discrimination, anti-Asian sentiment, scapegoating, and ethnic or religious intolerance
  • calls on federal law enforcement officials to work with state and local officials to investigate and document all incidents and threats against Asian Americans, to collect relevant data, and to hold perpetrators of such crimes accountable
  • has gained a total of 145 co-sponsors as of May 6th, 2020 (144 Democrats, 1 Republican)
  • has a companion Resolution in the Senate, led by Senator Harris (D-CA), Senator Duckworth (D-IL), and Senator Hirono (D-HI)
  • is supported by over 500 community organizations, including KAGC

As one of our responses to the critical situation, KAGC plans to mobilize and organize our network to support the timely and unanimous passage of the resolution. Click here for the full text of the legislation.

KAGC is also offering assistance to community members who have experienced discrimination, harassment, attacks, or any other form of unjust suffering from the current crisis in contacting members of Congress for necessary assistance. For inquiries, please reach KAGC by email (info@kagc.us) or phone at (202) 817-3841. We sincerely wish all our community members and supporters safety and well-being.
