Rep. Jimmy Gomez, whose district is home to the largest Korean American population among all congressional districts, sent a message of support to our community in the midst of the global pandemic and rising anti-Asian sentiment.

Check out the full message from Rep. Gomez, a two-time guest of honor at the KAGC National Conferences, Vice Chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, and author of the “Korean American Day” Resolution.

Transcript of the Message:

Hi, I’m Congressman Jimmy Gomez and I represent the largest Korean population in any congressional district in the entire country.

During this coronavirus pandemic, we’ve seen that people are trying to scapegoat the Korean community and the Asian community for the virus. As somebody who comes from the Latino community, I’ve seen this firsthand when it comes to a lot of other issues. They just try to look for a scapegoat–somebody to blame.

But that’s not appropriate ever, and that’s not appropriate here.

So I want to let you know that we are fighting back and we’re pushing back against anybody that tries to use hate, to divide our communities, and to scapegoat the Asian community because of the coronavirus.
