In light of the much anticipated 2020 General Election, KAGC saw a surge of inquiries on its Voter Hotline. One of the few national hotlines available in both Korean and English, the KAGC Voter Hotline provides voters with assistance over the phone, by email, via Facebook messenger, and on Instagram.

Leading up to November 3rd, most inquiries came from the states with a large Korean American population, such as California, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, and Texas. The topics of questions, age groups of the callers all varied greatly.

Frequently asked were the voter registration status, deadline, and requirements—and what to bring to the polling location on Election Day as well as how to proceed upon arrival on site. Notably, many voters also required additional explanation on the positions and referendum questions on the ballot, which are not provided with Korean translation in most states. Since most of the inquiries were submitted in Korean, many of these callers also needed interpreters at the polling place. Unfortunately, Korean interpreters are not readily available in most counties.

Upon assisting the callers, KAGC also shared with them the links to the KAGC Election Guide, published in early October with comprehensive information on elections in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Summaries of the voter registration process, positions on the ballot for the 2020 General Elections, instructions on voting by mail, and polling place locations may be found in both Korean and English on the website.

For any questions on election and voting, please contact KAGC by phone at (202) 450-4252 or by email at info@kagc.us between 9am and 5pm (EST) on weekdays.
