As a non-profit dedicated to assist active civic participation, KAGC provides key information on the upcoming elections. Please be advised that due to the public health crisis, changes have been made in several primary elections in most states. Below is the up-to-date information on the elections in states in July 2020.

Tuesday, July 7

Delaware

  • Primary election for Presidential election
  • Deadline for voter registration: June 13, 2020 (passed). Same-day registration is not available.
  • Absentee Ballot or Vote-by-Mail: Available for all. For the July primary elections, all registered Republican and Democrat Delaware in the State of Delaware will receive absentee ballot applications by mail. Eligible Delaware voters will be permitted to select the “sick” or “temporarily or permanently physically disabled” options on their absentee ballot application to cast a vote in the presidential primary election, even if they are not exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19. Voters must return the application to the Delaware Department of Elections or complete the process online to receive an absentee ballot. The voted ballot must be received by 8pm EDT on July 7.
  • The Delaware Department of Elections will operate at least six polling places in each county to allow voters to cast ballots in person should they choose not to vote by absentee ballot. Please check your poll site here.

New Jersey

  • Primary election for Presidential election, U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, state-level positions 
  • Deadline for voter registration: June 16, 2020 (passed). Same-day registration is not available.
  • Absentee Ballot or Vote-by-Mail: Available. County Clerks are required to send all Unaffiliated and Inactive Democratic and Republican registered voters a Vote-by-Mail Ballot application for the upcoming July 7, 2020 Primary Election. Because New Jersey is a closed Primary Election state, in order to receive a ballot, an Unaffiliated voter must choose to be affiliated with the Democratic or Republican party to receive that Party’s Vote by Mail Ballot. 
  • A voter may apply for a Mail-In Ballot by mail up to 7 days prior to the election (passed). He or she may also apply in person to the County Clerk prior to 8 pm the day of the election (passed).
  • Vote by Mail Ballot Drop Box Locations for July 7 Primary are updated here. The deadline is July 7.

Saturday, July 11

Louisiana

  • Primary election for Presidential election and the 54th Representative District Special Election on the state level 
  • Deadline for voter registration: June 10, 2020 (passed) – in person or by mail. June 20, 2020 (passed) – online. Same-day registration is not available.
  • Absentee Ballot or Vote-by-Mail: Available, if requested by 4:30pm CDT on July 7. The voted ballot must arrive at the Registrar of Voters by 4:30pm CDT on July 10. Click here to request an absentee ballot.

Tuesday, July 14

Alabama

  • Republican Primary Runoff Election 
  • Deadline for voter registration: June 29, 2020 (passed). Same-day registration is not available.
  • Absentee Ballot or Vote-by-Mail: Available, if requested by July 9. The voted ballot must arrive by 5pm CDT on July 13.

Maine

  • Primary election for U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives and state level positions
  • Deadline for voter registration: By Close of Business on July 7, 2020 – mail or third-person.
  • Absentee Ballot or Vote-by-Mail: Available, if requested by 5 pm EDT on July 9 – telephone or online. The voted ballot must arrive to the municipal clerk by 8pm EDT on July 14. 

Texas

  • Primary Runoff Election  
  • Deadline for voter registration: June 15, 2020 (passed). Same-day registration is not available. 
  • Absentee Ballot or Vote-by-Mail: You must meet the eligibility to request, the application must be received by July 2 (passed). The voted ballot must arrive at your county by 7pm CDT on July 14, if it’s not postmarked, or 5pm CDT on July 15, as long as it is postmarked by 7pm CDT on July 14.
  • Early voting in person: Available, June 29, 2020 – July 10, 2020. Registered and eligible voters may vote at ANY early voting location located in the county of residence. Check early voting locations here.

Deadlines for Voter Registration in July 

Michigan

  • Primary election for U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives and state level positions takes place on August 4, 2020
  • Deadline for voter registration: July 20, 2020 in any manner other than in-person with the local clerk, July 21 –  August 4, 8pm: in person registration with local clerk with proof of residency

Washington

  • Primary election for U.S. House of Representatives and state level positions takes place on August 4, 2020
  • Deadline for voter registration: July 27, 2020, online and mail registrations must be received by this date. In person voter registration deadline is 8pm on Election Day

Tennessee

  • Primary election for U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives and state level positions takes place on August 6, 2020 
  • Deadline for voter registration: July 7, 2020
  • Absentee Ballot Request Deadline: July 30, 2020

Hawaii

  • Primary election for U.S. House of Representatives and state level positions takes place on August 8, 2020 
  • Deadline for voter registration: July 9, 2020, 4:30 pm HST
  • Hawaii votes by mail and all voters will automatically receive their ballot in the mail by July 21, 2020

Wisconsin

  • Primary election for U.S. House of Representatives and state level positions takes place on August 11, 2020
  • Deadline for voter registration: July 22, 2020 – postmarked by mail, online, Deadline to Register in Your Municipal Clerk’s Office in person is August 7, voter registration on election day is also available

Alaska

  • Primary election for U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives and state level positions takes place on August 18, 2020
  • Deadline for voter registration or registration update: July 19, 2020

Florida

  • Primary election for U.S. House of Representatives and state level positions takes place on August 18, 2020
  • Deadline for voter registration: July 20, 2020
