[Senate S. 4018 | House H.R. 7234] A bill to strengthen the Mutual Defense Treaty between the United States and the Republic of Korea, and for other purposes
Also known as We Go Together Act, the bill reaffirms the importance of the partnership between the United States (US) and Republic of Korea (ROK) in light of escalating threats from North Korea and China, in the following ways:
- Rejects a transactional view of the US-ROK relationship, but instead, views the relationship as a pursuit of shared values and interests;
- Expresses support for the Korean employees who support U.S. forces and call on the administration to ensure that they do not bear the burden of breakdowns in cost-sharing negotiations;
- Requires the President to provide a detailed justification for any change to the U.S. policy with respect to the Mutual Defense Treaty between the US and ROK.

This bill seeks to strengthen the alliance between the United States (US) and Republic of Korea (ROK) into a mutually beneficial, global partnership in the following ways:
- Commemorates the 70th anniversary of the start of the Korean War and the start of the US-ROK alliance.
- Celebrates the close and continuing ties between the two people and governments, which has led to the lifesaving cooperation between the two during the COVID–19 pandemic at each country’s moment of need.
- Recommits the United States to ensuring the relationship between the US and ROK to reaffirm the role the alliance plays in ensuring peace and stability in Asia and the world.
