In celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Rep. Gil Cisneros sent a special message to the Korean American community in which he recognizes the contributions of our community and reiterates his solidarity against the “racism, xenophobia, and discrimination that have been directed” at the AAPI community in this global pandemic.

We thank Rep. Cisneros for the continued support through thick and thin, including his leadership on the Korean American VALOR Act and other key issues of our community.

Transcript of the Message:

Hi everyone. This is Congressman Gil Cisneros representing California’s 39th district, which encompasses parts of Orange, L.A., and San Bernardino counties. In the 39th district and across the country, I’m proud to join the Korean American Grassroots Conference, the Korean American community, and the entire AAPI community in celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

During this month, we recognize the incredible contributions that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have made to our country. They are leaders, pioneers, and trailblazers paving the path for progress and success in the United States.

During this challenging time, the AAPI community has gone above and beyond to help everyone in our neighborhoods. The Korean Community Service Health Center in Buena Park has been working around the clock to assist our most vulnerable residents, providing important healthcare services and bridging information and language gaps. AAPI restaurants are providing food for our health care workers and small AAPI businesses have been making and donating PPE supplies.

Despite the discrimination they are facing, the AAPI community is still stepping up, coming together, and lending a hand to those that need it. Not only do we celebrate their accomplishments, but we also support them through every challenge they face.

We need to call out the racism, xenophobia, and discrimination that have been directed at them because of the coronavirus. No person or community should have to deal with that. Diversity and inclusion are my district’s and our country’s greatest strengths.

I will continue to ensure their voice is heard in D.C. and in the district. If you have any questions on the coronavirus, or you need more information or resources, please feel free to contact my office at (714) 459-4575. Stay safe, take care, and I’ll talk to you later. Thank you very much.
