In the midst of his transition into the White House as the 46th President of the United States of America, President-Elect Joe Biden must complete his first task of building an administration. The 15 department heads and 8 cabinet-level officials effectively make up the 23-person “Cabinet,” which will lead the execution of the administration’s policy initiatives, along with numerous executive agency directors and a vast White House staff. As such, it may provide a clearer picture of the Biden presidency to look into the nominees for the next administration’s cabinet and White House staff.

In many ways, the incoming Biden Administration has been groundbreaking before even having entered the West Wing. As The Hill reported on November 17th, 2020: “More than half of the president-elect’s transition team is comprised of women, and nearly half of its members are people of color; Biden has also vowed that his new Cabinet and administration will be very diverse and ‘look like America.'”

Indeed, 27 of the 46 listed nominees for the top jobs in the Biden Administration—well over half—are women. First in the table are the 9 nominees for department heads, then the 5 named cabinet-level officials, 5 executive agency director nominations, and finally the 27 names for White House staff positions. The nominees within each section are ordered by the date of nomination. Certain positions require a Senate hearing for confirmation, which are marked on the table with an asterisk (*).
